Three Guidepost to assist you in content creation

“Okay, time to create some content for my marketing.”

This sounds like a simple and fun task, right? Often times though it pulls you into the deep end and then your plan comes out looking like a serial killer’s wall. Yes, it’s easy for this to occur, but it doesn’t always have to be this way!

There are three major guidepost you should use while creating your marketing content. By using these as your guide, you will not get caught up in the complexity that can become content marketing.

Audience Values

What does your audience value? Or a better question: What do you want them to walk away from you knowing? This isn’t just about pushing a product or making a sale. You want to understand why they approached you and why they continue to follow you. Value-adding content is one of the most important things you create for marketing. Go beyond pushing your promotion or sale and really focus on what your audience desires and how you can continue to provide it for them.

Timely Events

With the rise of social media, we are now living in a 24/7 news cycle. This means you can receive updates about world events almost instantaneously. This also means that you need to understand what is going on in the world when you are creating marketing content. This is more than just news as well. You need to be informed about what different holidays or days of remembrance are occurring. For example, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are holidays that may not seem like big days of celebration, but taking some time to share some words about it can go a long way.

Business Values and Goals

While you want to focus on bringing value to your content, your own business values/goals are the last guidepost of your content. This is how you bring the content you create back to your business and how can you use the content to convert them to a follower. You shouldn’t be bringing it back to you every time, but it is important to remind your audience why you are sharing and how you can help them add value to their lives.

When you strip away all of the unnecessary noise with content creation, it can become streamlined and simple. It doesn’t have to be time consuming. However, you must have a clear vision and understanding of what your business is about. This means to reflect on what your core values and goals are. Happy creating!
